Background
The neighborhood associations of South Carthay, Carthay Circle and Carthay Square, along with a number of residents, are working to get Carthay (all 3 Carthays) listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
How do we get listed on the National Register of Historic Places? The nearby neighborhood of Wilshire Vista has already completed the process. The National Park Service requires a detailed application with extensive documentation of the historic nature of the area. Because of the expertise and organization required, residents in the Carthays have chosen to work with the Architectural Resources Group, which has guided historic preservation for many properties, including LA’s Union Station.
Fundraising
To assemble the necessary documentation and write the application, Carthay Square’s share of the fee is $30,000. This includes a 10% fee for the LA Conservancy, who will manage the donations, making the donations tax deductible). Track our progess on our Fundraising Dashboard.
