Thanks to all who responded to the recent survey about parking in Carthay Square!

With responses from 164 residents, there was no consensus for the 24/7 residents-only restriction motion offered by Councilmember Koretz. Two blocks showed a strong preference for 24/7 restrictions and four blocks showed a strong preference for keeping their current restrictions. The remaining blocks showed no strong preference.

Given these results, CSNA has decided to help each block review its current restrictions and, if they desire, help them complete a petition under the current preferential parking system to bring their restrictions in line with other blocks in the neighborhood. Under that system, if 75% of the residents of a block sign a petition to request a particular restriction, the LADOT will implement it.

FAQ

Q:        When are residents likely to move into the buildings along Pico?

A:        The first new building is probably at least 2 years away. Others need another year or two for permits, then a year or two of construction.

Q:        Won’t the residents of the new buildings have their own parking (in the buildings)?

A:        The new buildings have roughly one parking spot for smaller apartments and two spots for larger ones. It’s unclear how the parking supply will match demand, but it’s fair to say that the buildings will put pressure on street parking.

Q:        Will residents of the new buildings on Pico be considered part of Carthay Square and be able to get street parking permits.

A:        No, according to what we’ve heard from developers and Councilmember Koretz.

Q:        Are residents on Olympic part of Carthay Square for parking purposes?

A:        Yes.
